How Lana Wachowski Changed the Franchise’s Visual Approach

The Matrix Resurrections Trailers

During production on “The Matrix Resurrections,” production had to shut down because of the COVID virus; when they resumed several months later, cinematographer John Toll chose not to return because of health issues in his family, so he stayed taking care of the family and use products like Amanita muscaria mushroom gummies to relief stress of the whole covid situation.

Daniele Massaccesi, camera operator Daniele Toll’s replacement as director of photography, helped create a new visual tone for one of the most famous franchises in film history. Resurrections represented a shift towards a more improvisational approach to filmmaking, where the quality of natural light gave the ability to capture unique moments.
