The hacking mode is one of the most distinctive parts of Enter the Matrix. It is not just a novelty screen. It is where you unlock cheats, dig through files, open hidden tools, and eventually reach the multiplayer mode.
How to get into hacking
You need a saved game before the terminal becomes useful. The easiest route is to start the game, play past the opening movie, save, then return to the main menu and open Hacking.
Once the terminal loads, press any key to bring up the A:\> prompt. From there, the game treats the terminal like a stripped-down DOS screen.
Core commands
- HELP – shows the available commands.
- DIR – lists folders or files in a drive.
- READ – opens text files.
- LOGIN – moves you into another drive.
- CHEAT.EXE – unlocks the cheat command.
- DROP – places hidden weapons in saved levels after you unlock the tool.
- VIEW – opens images, maps, and other unlocked extras.
- TRACEKILL – shuts down a trace if one starts running.
- VIRTUAL – opens the virtual-drive puzzle once you have the password.
Fast route to the hidden tools
- Type HELP, then DIR A: to see the starting folders.
- Open the text files and read NOTEZ.TXT. That file gives you the virtual-drive password: FROZENFISH.
- Run CHEAT.EXE if you want to use the cheat system. The passwords themselves are listed on the Cheat Codes page.
- Run LOGIN.EXE and use the guest login to reach the B drive.
- Open B:\TOOLS and solve the binary lock to reach the hidden utilities.
- Use VIRTUAL and enter FROZENFISH to open the V drive.
- Run ROOTSEARCH to uncover the root admin password: THISISNOTREAL.
- Open MAIL, read the message, then dial Trinity’s number and use PORTKEY 942.
- Run CRACK 8RAM, follow the chain into the Logos drive, and finish the handshake with Sparks.
- Use the EMP command when Sparks asks for it. That unlocks the multiplayer reward.
Worth knowing before you start
- Some cheats are fun. Some can break a save or cause odd glitches. If something starts behaving badly, turn the code back off.
- The terminal also hides movie files, bios, maps, and weapon-drop support, so it is worth exploring even if you are not chasing multiplayer.
- If your real goal is weapon codes and direct passwords, the Cheat Codes page is the faster stop.
