Are The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions still canon?

The Matrix Resurrections

At first glance, the official description of The Matrix Resurrections seems to call that into question. Read the description here:

“The Matrix Resurrections” is a continuation of the story established in the first MATRIX film. It reunites Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as cinematic icons Neo and Trinity in an expansion of their story that ventures back into the Matrix and even deeper down the rabbit hole. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind.

They are very specific when they describe it as the story established in the first MATRIX film. We don’t know what this means for either The Matrix Reloaded or The Matrix Revolutions. This would answer the question as to how both Neo and Trinity are involved.

But, as The Matrix Resource pointed out to me that the article is saying the description is specifically pointing out that it continues the story established in the first Matrix film, ie the start of the story was the first film.

Another way to think about it, is if you wrote the same story about Star Wars: “The Force Awakens” is a continuation of the story established in the first STAR WARS film. This doesn’t mean that The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi didn’t happen.

Based on that, yes, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions are still canon.
