Over the past several months, there has been a great deal of speculation about whether or not Hong Kong action star Jet Li would appear in the forthcoming sequels to The Matrix.
Word about this possibility began to spread earlier this year after Li’s starring role in Matrix producer Joel Silver’s Romeo Must Die. Both parties later confirmed a mutual interest in Li joining returning cast members Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, and Carrie-Anne Moss — but no announcement was ever made about the outcome of negotiations.
Very reliable sources have just revealed to FilmForce that Li will appear in both Matrix sequels, which will soon shoot back-to-back in Australia. Matrix creators Larry and Andy Wachowski’s affinity for Li’s superhuman martial arts capabilities were quite evident in the first film — in which Li did not even appear. As such, it’s safe to assume the immensely talented performer will be well utilized in the movie’s two follow-ups.
Since we now know Li will be busy filming the Matrix sequels this fall, that puts a bit of a question mark on exactly when he and Luc Besson will be collaborating on their action flick, announced on Tuesday. (Reported by IGN Filmforce)
