Succumb to 'The Matrix' at Premiere Written by Nina Davidson (c) 1999 Hollywood.com WESTWOOD -- It did not take artificial intelligence to figure out the hottest spot in Hollywood on Wednesday, March 24. "The Matrix" premiere at Mann's Village Theatre catapulted stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss into that whirling vortex known as fame. The Warner Bros. sci-fi thriller stars Reeves as computer programmer Thomas Anderson, who leads a double life as a hacker with the alias of Neo. When he accidentally stumbles onto a conspiracy, the very fabric of his universe rips apart by the powers that govern the matrix. With the aid of the perpetually vinyl-clad Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), Neo begins to strip away the layers of unreality swaddling his existence. The mysterious Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) also guides Neo on his new path to discovering the truth about the malevolent matrix. Written and directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski, "The Matrix" relies on cutting-edge special effects as well as a sleek production design for its stylish atmosphere. The Wachowski brothers also co-wrote "Bound," a Mafia romance starring Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly.
