Aaliyah talks Matrix Sequel Stunts (a little)

In an interview with the USA Today, Aaliyah spoke a bit about her roles in “Queen of the Damned” and the upcoming “Matrix” sequels. Her movie roles have been even more demanding.

For ‘Damned’, she had to go through months with a personal trainer and a stunt coordinator to portray the ancient mother of all vampires, Akasha, who is awakened by the rock music of the vampire Lestat (Stuart Townsend). And because Akasha goes through transformations, the role also meant hours wearing heavy prosthetics.

She has been back in Australia for the making of the “Matrix” films, in which she plays a character named Zee alongside returning stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss. That meant more training, as the creative team of Larry and Andy Wachowski likes stars to do most of their own stunts.

“I want to do it all,” she says. “I’ve always been athletic. I love sports, and I used to be a swimmer, and I’ve been a dancer all my life.”

Aaliyah says she’s determined to show her versatility as an actress, and she’s so far avoided getting typecast, reports the trade. Her next role will likely be a remake of “Sparkle” — the story of the trials of an R&B trio — that will be made by Whitney Houston’s production company. After that, she’s pitching a ’50s period piece with an interracial love affair and after that, possibly a comedy.

The self-described workaholic says that once she returns from working on the “Matrix” movies she’ll begin mapping out a tour to support the album.
