The Matrix: The TV Series?

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

I’m going through whatever sources I can find of my old MatrixFans.net site online, to repopulate the archives of the site.  As I do this, I stumble on to some very interesting things that have since gone forgotten.

One of those was this little story with a mention of a Matrix TV series.  The sentence in question is this: The article also mentions that the Wachowski brothers reportedly are working on a TV series, based on The Matrix.

Perhaps the writer of the original story that this came from (which is long since gone from the internet) was only talking about The Animatrix.  However, a series of any kind, at this point, would be pretty cool.

‘There is No Spoon’ – Spoon Boy actor Rowan Witt

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Over the past few weeks, some friends of mine were having Matrix nights.  I missed the third one, unfortunately, but I hear that it’s pretty good.  After watching the first film, though, we were talking about some of the characters from the film.  I wondered what Spoon Boy was up to these days.

Here’s what I found.

Rowan Witt, who played Spoon Boy in The Matrix, took some time off from acting, from 2002 to 2010.  He’s been acting in mostly Australian productions since his appearance in The Matrix.  And for those that are curious, here’s a current photo of him to make you feel old.

Everything is a Remix – The Matrix

Friday, October 7th, 2011

We’ve all known for a while that The Matrix was a mixture of a great many things.  The Wachowski brothers themselves are big anime and kung fu fans, so it makes sense that they would put homages to some of their favorites into their film.

Rob G. Wilson made this video examining the origins of The Matrix. It was written by Cynthia Closkey and most of the comparisons were crowdsourced by Everything is a Remix fans.

Matrix performance on Britain’s Got Talent 2011 – Razy Gogonea

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

This year’s Britain’s Got Talent featured a dance routine by 28-year-old Razy Gogonea, a dancer originally from Romania.  His routine featured bullet time without wires, and some other things.  It was very impressive to see it happen live on stage.  I’m hopeful that he hasn’t just given away his entire repertoire of moves in the first round.  That remains to be seen as he’s made it to the next.  Hopefully he’s saved some really killer moves for later, that he can add to really build up his dance into something quite spectacular.  I have to imagine if it was a whole dance troop that he was a part of, he could have done something where he was Neo and the rest were all Agent Smith.

Vote for Razy!

Terminator 5 coming soon, writer of Keanu’s film ’47 Ronin’ to script

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

While not exactly related to the Matrix, there is a very slight link.  Keanu Reeves will be appearing in the film 47 Ronin, which is scheduled for release on November 12, 2012.  The screenplay for that film was written by Chris Morgan, who Universal is interested in hiring to write the fifth Terminator film if they get the film rights.

Morgan also wrote the screenplays for both the third and the upcoming fifth Fast and the Furious films: The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast Five.  I remember hearing that Tokyo Drift was a better film than the second one, and the fourth wasn’t as good as the third.  The interesting thing is that, the first and third films had similar budgets, at $38 and $40 million, and the second and fourth films had similar budgets at $76 and $85 million.  The lesson?  Spend less and you’ll have a better film, Universal.  No word on the budget of the fifth film, not that I really care.. I haven’t seen any of these.

See THE MATRIX LIVE, in Germany, on 8 October 2011

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Performing music live with a movie has been becoming more and more popular over the last few years.  Star Wars in Concert is a very good show that contains footage and music from the entire Star Wars Saga, The Lord of the Rings has had similar success with each film being performed live all over the world and in an unrelated note Video Games Live is apparently going to be expanded.  It only makes sense that The Matrix would be performed with a live orchestra sometime, and it is happening this year:

Matrix Live – a unique combination of film and concert on 8 October 2011, 8 pm at the Arena Leipzig (Germany). Enjoy the cult movie on a huge screen (24 by 12 metres) with film music by one of the best German orchestras. The MDR Sinfonieorchester conducted by Frank Strobel plays live and perfectly synchronized with the scenes.

Tickets available from 29 Euro on www.arena-ticket.com.

Matrix sequels VFX producer is Directing ‘Apollo 18′

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

I just happened to read this, and thought that I’d write about it. Trevor Caewood, who worked on the visual effects of the Matrix sequels, will direct a film based on ‘Apollo 18.’  It’s always good to see folks who have worked on the Matrix films are out and about in Hollywood, and really cool when they reach the status of director.  Congrats, Trevor!

Apollo 18 was meant to be a mission in the 1970s, but NASA shut it down.  It was intended to go to the moon.  There are skeptics that believe that the mission was publicly shut down, but privately continued as planned.

The script was written by Brian Miller and Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov will produce. The movie has been production for some time and is slated for a March 4, 2011 release date.

Update: Spanish filmmaker Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego has stepped into direct the Timur Bekmambetov-produced film which The Weinstein Company won in a bidding battle during AFM. Trevor Caewood was originally attached to direct the film, which was scripted by Brian Miller.  The production is on a very tight leash, since the film has been dated for a March 4, 2011 release date. Caewood was going to use his vfx company for the visual effects, but it became clear that because his company is busy on other projects, adding Apollo 18 would make it difficult to make the date. Bekmambetov will instead take the vfx in-house through his Moscow-based facility, Bazelevs, where the Apollo 18 work will be completed in time for its March release date before the studio focuses on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which Bekmambetov is directing for Fox.  (via Deadline.com)
