Rumor: Wachowski’s preparing New Matrix Trilogy for Warner Brothers

The Matrix ReloadedIt’s been rumored time and time again, that there would be a new set of Matrix movies. From possible sequels, to total reboots, we’ve heard it all. But now, there’s a chance that it may actually happen.

The website, Latino Review, has received word that the Wachowskis have begun the writing process, with treatments and outlines already turned in to the studio. There is no word on who will direct the new films, but it’s likely that the Wachowski’s will, once again, sit behind the camera.

When is the Matrix coming back?

Word is that Warner Brothers wants to have a surefire franchise on the big screen by 2017.

Why is the Matrix coming back?

Disney has Star Wars coming in 2015, and a new film every year or two thereafter, plus all of those Marvel, Pixar, and traditional Disney animation and motion pictures.  Fox has three more Avatar films coming, with the first one potentially releasing in December 2016.

What will the story be about?

Nobody knows at this point. Mr. Anderson could be back, as could Agent Smith. The report said one of the early outlines was about the birth of the Matrix, and some of the suits would like to explore that early world but it’s way too early and the story is still very fluid (thus, subject to change). Matrix fans will note that this was territory already covered by the Animatrix, but the source of this news said the animated stories will have no effect on the live-action world of The Matrix.  Basically, this means that Warner considers the only film canon to be the three films in the Matrix Trilogy.

Latino Review expects there to be many denials from Warner Brothers until they finally say “it’s happening.” My guess is that it’s actually happening. Expect a new Matrix film on the big screen in 2017.

It’s not a rumor. It comes from a reliable news source. Not something I just found on FB 😉
Besides, I think it’s about time they tell the Birthing story via film. Animatrix was great, but with film tech being where it’s at today, they can do literally anything. And how cool would it be for them to introduce more new, groundbreaking filming styles??
I personally think this story is huge for Matrix fans. A lot of us have been dormant for years and this could be exactly what we needed.

      -Wake up

  1. This is awesome like Major says alot of us have been dormant and I feel that the matrix was special and a cultural pioneer that felt suddenly shunned away especially after mxo went offline the irony of which was ridiculous, but many I’m sure felt a strong longing to keep going because we became part of the matrix. How could something so awesome just go away I knew it would return.you hear that? That is the sound of inevitability Mr Anderson

  2. The Wachowski siblings wrote and produced both the video games and the animatrix, so why would they allow this to be disregarded? They intentionally set up transmedia storytelling using video games and cartoons to contribute to the ongoing story as the films were still being released. Characters from the video games crossed over into the movies, and if you didn’t play the games, viewers did not know the backstory. And as stated in this article, the animations gave a lot of backstory that helped make the world shown in the films make sense. It seems unlikely that the Wachowskis would allow their previous ideas to be disregarded just for money. But who knows, money talks

  3. There was exactly the same rumor one or twitter years ago,and it was already said by this same latino review,so i dont believe it

  4. I’ve been waiting for a long, long time for part 4. I would say that half of earth is waiting with me. My lifetime hero from DC is the Flash, still though, he won’t stand one bit vs Neo, the One, my ultimate hero. I owned, watched the trilogy thousands of time, over and over again. I even memorize each and every word.
I would say, it’s over due for part 4 and I can’t wait for it on 2017. I wish to God to see the rest of the sequels. Rest assured that I would be the first line in the theater. Wachowski bro. you owe your fans that much. So, please, please get the next part to life.
